Welcome to Panorama PRO

SoftQuad Panorama PRO is the commercial version of Panorama, the first SGML browser for the World Wide Web. It is full-featured, fully-supported and comes with numerous features that offer users broader presentation capabilities, more powerful context-sensitive searching and enhanced hypertext linking capabilities. Panorama PRO allows publishers to create SGML documents and users to view SGML documents on the Web. It also provides users with greater control over the display of documents, giving them the power to create multiple personal link layers, annotations and bookmarks.

Rich Presentation Capabilities

Style sheets
Panorama's style sheets provide you with a great deal of control over the display of any document. While the free version of Panorama limits you to only viewing style sheets created by the publisher, the PRO version allows publishers and users to add or create any number of style sheets, each with its own name. Style sheets give you control over display attributes such as font, size, weight, colour, indents, spacing and automatic numbering.
Navigators
Navigators display a document's table of contents interactively. Clicking on an item in the navigator displays the corresponding section of the document, making it very easy to browse through longer documents. Panorama PRO allows you to create and edit navigators that can display your table of contents as, for example, hierarchical text, a list of emphasized words, a table or even a list of figures.
Powerful Math and Table Support
Panorama and Panorama PRO allow you to incorporate math and tables directly into your document. Both simple and complex tables are supported.
Flexible Graphic Support
Panorama and Panorama PRO provide full support for inline graphics and allow you to incorporate them directly in your document. GIF, BMP and WMF graphics can be displayed inline or referenced by an icon. You can also easily zoom and pan graphics, and set up links between text and a graphic as easily as between two pieces of text.

Powerful Searching Capabilities

Document Searches
Panorama PRO provides you with powerful searching capabilities. You can search an entire document or restrict your area of search by SGML element.
Occurrence-Density Display
Panorama's occurrence density display bar looks like a normal scrollbar but displays a thin horizontal line marking each location of a found string. The more lines shown in one location, the greater the concentration of matches in that section of the document. You can click on a mark to automatically scroll to that specific location.
Context-Sensitive Display
Panorama also allows you to restrict the area of search within a document by SGML element. For instance, you could search for the word SGML as it occurs within headings.

Enhanced Hypertext Linking Capabilities

Personal Link Layers
Panorama PRO's personal link layers let you add valuable notes or commentary to a document. You can create annotations, bookmarks and links, all of which add value to a document. Notes, for example, can be shared by several readers, or be hidden from their view. This can be handy in a case where several readers are reviewing the same document.
Annotations
A user can put annotations on any section of text in a document. The next reader can then access them when reading that particular section of the document. This feature is also handy to use for footnotes.
Bookmarks
Panorama PRO also allows you to add bookmarks to documents you are viewing to mark portions of text for future reference. Simply select the section of text you want to mark and give it a descriptive name. When you want to reference that text, select from a list of all the bookmarks you have created.
Links
Set up links within a document, or between documents, to cross reference information. Links can be text-to-text, text-to-graphic, or even graphic-to-graphic. With Panorama PRO, you can also include "hot spot" links within graphics. These links allow you to connect a specific part of a graphic to text, or to another graphic.
HyTime-conforming SGML
Panorama PRO's personal link layers are saved as HyTime-conforming SGML. Annotations are saved as a document with HyTime links pointing to where the annotation was originally made. And you can search the text of the linked document just as you would search any other document.
